What is Occupational Therapy?
According to AOTA, Occupational therapists focus on the things you want and need to do in your daily life. Occupational therapy intervention uses everyday life activities (occupations) to promote health, well-being, and your ability to participate in the important activities in your life.
Pediatric occupational therapy helps a child reach goals and developmental milestones that improve their daily life. It focuses on how your child moves, plays and interacts with the world around them. It helps children meet developmental milestones, improve self-care, play and self-regulation skills, and overcome sensory challenges.
Occupational therapy can help your child in the following areas:
Fine motor and visual motor skills (coloring, puzzles, stacking).
Activities of daily living (dressing, feeding, brushing teeth).
Sensory processing (playing with messy textures, climbing playground equipment, tolerating loud noises)
Playing (social and emotional skills).
